An Invisible Fence is just a wire around the outer boundary of your home, compound or property, designed to keep your pets within the limits. The wire (buried) carries a radio signal, while the pet wears a light weight radio collar. When your pet goes near the wire the radio caller emits a warning sound (beep). If the beep sound is ignored and your pet crosses the boundary (unseen wire) it receives a mild shock to deter it. The pet soon become conditioned to the beep and the shock and starts avoiding the location, thus the hidden wire becomes an effective virtual check to your pets.
There is no danger whatsoever to other animals and human beings by this, as long as they don’t wear or carry the radio collar. This electronic pet containment system is cheaper than other modes of fences like the electric fence and physical fences. As there is nothing to mar the beauty of the property it is preferred by the majority of land owners. In some places it is not used for just keeping the pets in. It is also used to stop livestock’s from straying away.
There are wireless pet fences. Here instead of lining the perimeter with a wire, the radio signals are emitted from a central unit. When the pet strays beyond a certain radius of the unit, the unit activates the collar and it gives the shock. In another type of fenceless boundary, a GPS is fitted in the collar. No physical installation is necessary here, allowing some additional conveniences.
Installing an invisible fence is not difficult. You dig a trench along the line you want to fence and bury the wire to be hidden. You must take care not to hit any under ground cables or power lines. Installing the fence is not enough for this kind of fences. If your pet is not properly trained it may cross the lines when there are temptations disregarding the surprise or pain of the shock.
To train your pets, initially, you place training flags to mark the boundaries. You walk your dog wearing the radio collar towards the flag. When you come near the flag the collar gives a beep. On hearing the sound, you run back prodding the dog to do the same, often with encouragements. Occasionally, you will have to let your pet feel the shock, to make it understand, what will happen if strayed beyond the marked area. When the pet is properly trained you can remove the training flags.
Majority of the pet fence customers are satisfied. It is clear from their reviews. Compared to other physical fences like the wooden, wired or other types, invisible fence is cheap. Other advantages are that it is easy to install, concealment maintains the property’s initial beauty, you can move freely across the wire anywhere on its perimeter. Price of installing a pet fence around a one acre property is nearly $1300. It may vary according the state and locality where you stay. One thing we should always remember is that an Invisible Fence is a psychological deterrent and not a physical barrier.
